Is Laparoscopy Still Necessary in the Management of Tubal Infertility?

Objectives: To compare between hysterosalpingography (HSG) and laparoscopic findings in patients tested for infertility thereby to determine the significance of latter examination. Methods: This was a descriptive study performed two Gynecology departments Dakar (Senegal). Included were 84 with suspicious tubal-infertility who underwent HSG followed by laparoscopy. The Kappa (K) statistics used clarify concordance vs. laparoscopy findings. Results: showed followings: 0.08 proximal tubal obstructions (poor agreement), 0.40 distal (moderate -0.08 peritoneal adhesions (no agreement). Laparoscopy revealed pelvic 84% cases, endometriosis 12% apparently normal tubes 12%. According operability score, 16.6% lesions classified as stage 4 23.8% at 1. Conclusion: did not agree infertility, thus, should be employed, especially when abnormal has low diagnostic value adhesions.
